A dispatch from Downing Street, published in the Gazette, gives consent to tho request that Sir James Carroll, Messrs. J. A. Millar, I!. M'Kenzic, D. ljiiililo, and A. T. Xgata bo allowed to retain the title of "honourable," each having served over three years as a member of the Executive Council.

Sir Geo. Clifford, in his annual address to the Earing Conference, mado reference to the death of Mr. C. Hood-Williams, whoso long experience rendered him from the _ earliest days of tho conference one of its most useful members. Ho was (said Sir Georgo Clifford) a sportsman of. the truest and most honourable type, both as an. owner and as an official, and was ever foarl&ss in following tho dictates of his upright mind. The conference passed a resolution of condolence with the relatives of tho deceased. Tho following officers for the ensuing year wero appointed by thu New Zealand Dental Conference yesterday:—President, Mr. A. M. Carter, Auckland; chairman, Mr. T. A. Hunter, Duuedin; secretary, Mr. H. P. Pickerell, Buncdin (Otago University); treasurer, Mr. J. Chrystall, Diuiediit. Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., has been appointed chairman of the Licensing Committees of Wellington, Hufct, and. Wellington Suburbs, and Country Districts. A large circle of friends Will regret to learn of the death of Mr. Ronald T. Hood, of Wellington, which occurred yesterday, morning. Mr. Hood was for some years connected with the Government Life Insurance Department, but owing to tho development of a chest complaint he was advised 'to find outdoor employment, and became a newspaper agent. The deceased was connected with the formation and development of the Athletic Football Club, of which he was for a long time a most enthusiastic secretary. He was also a very smart player for that club, and represented Wellington against Manawatu twenty-one years ago. Mr. Hood, who was born in Oamaru, was 45 years of age. Hβ has been a resident of Wellington for the last twenty-fivfl years. Mr. Hood was unmarried. His remains will bo taken to Oamaru for interment. Mr. J. P. Dugdale has been appointed a member of tho Patea Licensing Committee. Dr. Rayner, of the West Coast Kauri Timber Company, is in town, and is staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. A. Haworth, of Wanganui, has been appointed a public auditor under tho Friendly Societies Act. Mr. Arnaud M'Kellar, F.P.A./ N.Z., has been reappointed auditor to the New Zealand Racing Conference. ' Messrs. W. F. Tomlinson and W. B. King have been appointed cadets in tho Public Works Department. Dr. T. K. Sidoy was a passenger from San Francisco by tho Tahiti yesterday. Mr. P. M. Hansen, of Auckland, is a visitor to Wellipgtou. Dr. C. H. Robertson, accompanied by Mrs. Robertson and family, loft Waihi for Auckland on Monday evening. Dr. Robertson, who for the fkvst four or five wars has been superintendent of the Waihi District Hospital, will retain tho position as consulting surgeon to tho institution. Mr. W. S. O'Brien, formerly' superintendent of the Wellington Municipal Fire Brigade, is at present a resident of Tahiti. Mr. Martin Kennedy has booked a passage by the Ulimaroa for Sydney to-day. Commissioner Richards, of ttua Salvation Army, has returned to Wellington from a, visit to Auckland. Dr. Robertson, of Dunedin, and tlia Rev E. C.
