It was decided to stop the work at the TiVitca waterworks until fine weather set.iii. - , The Pnlmerston Debating Society held ft mock Parliament at' its 'weekly.'-meeting last evening, Mr. R; M'NaV being - present. and coaching tho members as to Parliamentary procedure. The debate Will' be continued at nest meeting. _ ■ A lecture on Albanian, Turkish, ond Egyptian customs was given at St. Andrew's Church last, evening by Prrnce Gnstflve Dickran, who is described as "on Albanian royalty." Th© address proved interesting. Mr. R. M'Nftb, of Palmerston, will shortly leave'on a. two months' visit to Australia, where ho will continue historic researches. At the annual meeting of the Fire Brigade. the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Secretary, Fireman I-;. Hitching; treasurer, Superintendent Barnard; committee, l r iremen G. Dredge, 1\ w:' T'ettett. S. Il'aycock, and the officrrs ex officio; auditor, Mr. W. Hunter. The following were granted honours:—Additional two years' service bars, I'. Milverton, E. Hitching.?, and ]•'. W. Petlett; five years' medals, G. Dredge ond"T/. Wischnowsky; three years' certificates. C. Hopkins, W. Pnssmore, A. Williams, D. Wfit'on, md T. Hollowny. Arbor Day was not observed here today. A civic welcome was extended to-day to Commissioner and Mrs. Richards, of (lie Salvation Army. The Commissioner has been appointed head of the Army operations in New Zealand. Amongst those present were Mr. D. Btiiek, M.P. for PalinerMon, »iud several UoVough Councillors, besides members of the local Ministers' Association. Addresses were given by tlie MayoT (Mr. .1. A. Xnsh)l Mr. Buick. the.Pev. F.'M'Donald, Major CaTmicbael (the Wellington Provincial Commander of the Army), .and others. The visitors were entertained at a banquet, to-night.
