LAKE COLERIDGE SCHEME.
MR. F. BLACK TO BE ASKED TO REPORT. (By Toleeraph.—Pr«B« Asaoclatlon.l , , Christctiurch, July 17, The Major stated to-da.v that matter* ill connection with tho Luke Coleridge scheme had reached such a stage that I,lie City Council felt that it should have the benefit of expert advico on the whole question. The council wanted the cost of tho production _of electricity by gnsproducer plants, oil, and steam' engines, and other methods of generation compared with the Lake Coleridge scheme, on tho basis of. the provisional arrangement already made. A Special meeting of the council was held last evening to consider the question ot employing an independent expert. The committee unanimously, recommended, that Mr. Frederick Black, consulting engineer of Wellington, should be asked to report oh the scheme. Th» Mayor added that it would probably be three weeks, before. Mr. Black's veport would be ready for presentation to tho council. Mr. Black had previously reported on tho Timaru electric scheme, and was a recognised independent authority.
