STORM AT SYDNEY.
HEAVIEST SEA F9R 20 YEARS.
By Teleeraph—Press Association—Copyricht (Rec. July 16, 10.55 p.m.) Sydney, July IG. A severe storm has teen raging for the past two days, and so far shows no signs of abating. There have been exceptionally heavy seas all along the coast, and shipping is having a rough lime. The Manly ferry service across the harbour mouth is suspended. The waves swept over the ocean bench at Manly, and demolished the surf-bathers' dressingsheds. The vessels arriving in port had unpleasant, experiences. Many, including some big liners, are standing off, as they are unable to enter the Heads. The departure of the Wimmera for Auckland lias been postponed till 11 a.m. on Thursday, owing to the rough weather. Newcastle, Wollongong, and Clarence Kiver report that tho breakwaters at their ports have been damaged by'the enormous seas. • Ono or two coastal vessels are overdue, and are supposed to be sheltering. ' Numbers of boats and motor launches were smashed and damaged ut Manly, and a portion of the sea-wall destroyed. Over ,£7O worth of lines was destroyed in attempts to moor the ferry steamers. The sea on tho coast is tho highest for over twenty years.. At Bulli Jetty, on the south coast, a large quantity of coal-loading machinery was waslied away. The jetty at Solitary Island on the north coast has also been destroyed. • The Victorian Government dredge, 193 days out from Rotterdam, put in for shelter. She. narrowly oscaped swamping. , (Rec.
