A cow belonging, to Mr. C. W. .Tackson, dairyman, Wyndhnin, was delivered the other day cf three nlmo-t fully developed calves (says the Malaurn "Ensign"). The cow is well and in full milk, but her offspring died. A rather "extraordinary ca-c of* licredited malformation occurred' on the prolieitv of Jlr. John Suiith, of Alfrcdtou. A few y-?iirs back a calf was born with a. swallow earmark. Tin's, calf has developed into a c;-w, which has produced a secpnd calf with a precisely, similar earmark. . The twelve Holstcin heifers and six bulls imported''from .Canndu'by Mr. C. C. ■ Buekland, .of Monavale, Waikata,' •wero brought out by Mr. H. S. Logan, who states that' tho bulls -were picked from the best studs in Canada, but chiffly from the slock of Mr. A. C. Hardy, cf Brackville. Ontario! 'They were selected from tho most prominent dairying stinins. the dams of some of the- bulls showing registered official yields of 3(ilb. of butter per week. The heifers w:cre nicked tiom ."even of the best dairying herds of the Northern Dominion, whose long line of ancestors have ,been famous for their milk and. butter-fat yields. ' About this time last years,. says the ■"Southland News," the grass grub was making serious ravages on many farms throughout Southland, but this year, no doubt thanks to the long spell cf rain experienced, one, never hears the little pest mentioned. There Were shipped from the Bluff by the Waihora last week, in charge of Mr. .1. K. B. Hay, of Messrs. Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., on account of Mr. T. C. Ellis. 250 rain lambs. The consignment is said to be 11 particularly fine one, having been specially selected. The offer of Mr. Donald Mncdonald to place tho service of the imported horse Bancor at the disposal of the association has been accepted. . Mr. Macdonald has also giveh a donation of X'so to the association. The Wyndbam "Farmer"' understandes that Mr. Macdonald stipulated for a guarantca. cf SO marcs for two successive seasons, at a fen of -C 8 Bs., and that already no fewer than 78 guarantees have come to hand. . -. '".' ' Several valuable horses and some horned cattle have, says,the- Nelson "Colonist," been lost in the Waimeas during the past few weeks from lockjaw. Plans of a cheese factory to be erected at I'apatawa are being prepared abpresent. The factory will be run on a co-operative basis. Already buyer? for the coming season's dairy output are in the market, although nothing definite, as far as can'be ascertained (says the "Taranaki Herald"), has been completed.. •Tho monthly meeting of directors of the Tawaha. Dairy Company was held on Saturday, when it was decided to pay a bonus to suppliers,- which, including a dividend on all paid-un canital, will equal 1111 amount paid on butter-fat of Is. 3d. per 11). The question cf making whey butter was taken into consideration, and it was decided that while it might not pay the company to put in the full plant, . investigations should be made in regard to separating the whey and selling tho cream.
