REFEREES' ASSOCIATION. • A meeting of tho Wellington Referees' Association was held last evening, Mr. A. E. Neilson presiding. Mi'. C. P. Lynch was elected a member of the association. Some reference-was made to the statement that had got abroad, to the effect that referees took matches under mutual agreement. It appeared'that someone hod asked Mr. A. Evenson whether the match which he took last Satutday lmd ; been taken under mutual agreement. Mr. Evenson flatly contradicted this, pointing out that he did not know that he was to control the match until the morning of the day on which it was to bu played. The chairman said that it seemed to him that there.was too much ridiculous talk about mutual agreements. After a match last Saturday he hud said, by way of a joke, that he had signed a. mutual agreement, and now he heard that it was repeated "all over the town."

A press paragraph was the subject of some discussion. The matter referred tc oppeared in a report of a recent meeting of the Wellington Rugby, Union, and is as follows:—"M-r. Hardham asked Mr. <;• 4'/ Il<? "'"S'prescnt at a,meeting of tiio Jieferees .Assocjation.wlicn 't was de.cided that Ashton should-bo 'put off' in I etone's next match. The question came 'tt l , sllr P r ! SB .t9 Sir. Jones, who stated ■hat he had not. attended a. meeting of the association for Over six weeks." fno chairman said that he had attended every meeting for the last two years, and,had never heard of such a thing before. It seemed to him that the wholo matter had originated from Ashton. No such statement had been made by the association. He suggested whether it would be advisable to take a resolution on the matter, but members decided to let the matter drop for the present.
