(From Our SDccial Correspondent.) a JCKW OKAXGE LODGE HALL. Tho newly-erected Orange Hall, at Petone, ivu.s opened on Sticurdav afternoon. Tin- cereiunny was performed bv the Mayor (Mr. .1. \V. it'Kwan), who was presented with a suitably-inscribed silver key by Mr. Abrnhall, W.ll. of Lodge 47, Petoue. Visiting ollicers and brethren of Lodges 10, 3fi, M, Hi, Ji), and (i« were present, also representatives of the local Iriendly societies. After the hall had been declared open, those present assembled in the building. Ihe Jieputy-Grand Ma>lor for New Zealand (Bro. Hunter, of North) presided. Apologies were received from ti'? Honourable the Prime Minister (Mr. JfnSscy), who regretted that ;> prior engagement prevented his altending, and also apologies from Ihe Hon. P. 31. B. i'isher. Dr. Newman, M.1 , ., T. M. Wilford, M.P., and a number of ollicers of other lodges.

Bro. G. Parker, District Grand Muster, oil jbehalf of the lucal lodge, expressed pleasure at seeing so many there. It showed that the Orange institution had .sympathy in IVone. Mv. J. \\\ "M'Ewnii tlwiikcil members for the key which,they had presented to him. ■ It was one of the'few mementoes which he had received rfuriui: his official career as Mayor of I'elonc. He had been asked when, he entered the hall if lie was nor afraid of endangering his popularity, .■vad he had replied "Xo." If his popularity depended on tho prejudice of.the people, then it did not rest on a very solid basis. He congratulated members of the Lodge upon their enterprise. With regard' to the hall, it spoke- well for them, seeing that thev were only working men, that they should have undertaken the work, and he wished them every success. ' Bro. Petherick, P.G.M., said that he was very pleased indeed when the telegram from Mr. Hassey had been read. He was satisfied that the Premier was sincere. He (the speaker, thought that it would bo becoming if those present passed a resolution congratulating Mr. Mnssey on having attained the position of Prime Minister of the Dominion. Apart from party politics, ho considered that they could indeed pass a resolution congratulating l r r. Massej 1 on having attained tho Premiership, and he would move accordingly. The resolution was seconded by ■Bro. Abrahall, and carried unanimously. Speeches wwe also made by the Revs. B. J I. Ginger (Past Grand Chaplain), —. Cottoni, and P. J. Cossum, and by Bro. Petherick, P.G.M. • During the afternoon musical and |.ekcHtionnry items were given by Jliss Uiakely (2), Mr. C. Gray (encored), and Bro. Pilchor, of Lodge 43. At the conclusion of the ceremony a tea meeting was held in St. Augustine's Hall, the tables being under the supervision of the members of tho Ladies' Lodge and their , fiiemls. In tho evening a combined lodge meeting was held and tho dedication ceremony was performed by Bros. Hunter, Deputy G.M., and G. Parker, District Grand Master, j PETONB lIOWIXG CLUB. Tho animal , smoke concert in connccti in with the Petone Bowing Club was held on Saturday evening. Mr. K. Mothe.i (president) occupied the chair, and there were about 50 present, including representatives from other rowing clubs. Jjurin,j the evening the following trophies, wj.'i last year, we.ro presented by the chairman:— President's Fours.—Parraut, Hickey, Wilson, Adamson. Jlothes, Pairs.—Parrant and Hume. Club Fours. —Parrant, Hume, Adamsou, Clapson. Club Pairs.—Parrant and Clftnson. Novice Pairs.—lnghaui and Glading. The club captain, Mr. Tremain, . was presented with a dinner service in honour of his marriage. Tho usual toast list was punstuated with items by members and thair-friends. • '
