The Citizens' Committee to-day 7eceived a telegram-from Sir Arthur Guinness, stating that the Prime Minister is settling the deadlock here. The matter has been referred .to the Arbitration Court. ]t is suggested : that, pending a decision, work will be resumed at the mines. Mr. Phillips, acting-chairman of the oommittee, thanked the speaker and the Primo Minister, and called a meeting. A deputation then waited on the general manager of the Consolidated Goldfields, and presented the suggestion. Mr.. Evans agreed to forward the proposition, to' the Mineowners' Association. Owing to the exodus the single men. coming oil road works have not swelled the union roll as muc): as was expected. Only nineteen namee are recorded as'the increase. The "county is etill employing all the men it,possibly can. \
The proposal submitted'by the Hon. W. F. Massey, who ie Minister for Labour in the new Cabinet, was that 1 dispute should be submitted for settlement to independent arbitrators, and the work should Dβ resumed pending the < cision. This was communicated to the Koefton Citizens' Committee, by the member for the district, Sir Arthur, Guinness, and the Prime Minister received the following telegTam from the chairman o the committee:—"Reefton Citizens' Committee desire, to thank you for ytur sug gestion re mining deadlock, ccnveye<. through Sir- Arthur Guinness, which i. much appreciated, and we will immediately endeavour to carry it into effect."/
