PROGRESSIVE ENGLISHWOMEN'S CLUB.
The women in England are certainly progressive in other matters besides that of throwing bricks. The new society of women musicians in London, has a great many distinguished names in its list of members. Mme. Liza Lehmann is the president of this organisation. One of the leading figures in the club is Dr. Ethel Smyth, who has recently achieved the distinction of becoming a Doctor of Music. Miss Smyth is a strong believer in tho feminist movement. She delights in square-toed shoes end squaretoed thoughts, and her music has much charm and origiuality. She has already written two operas which bavo been pro'duced on the Continent. Mrs. Amy Woodforde-Finden is another member of this club, of marked originality. Her "Indian Love Lyrics" were the first of the Indian songs which havo been flooding our music-racks for' the last few years. ' Thero are a number of other distinguished members of this musical club, and the organisation bids i&ir to add still more to the Englishwoman's position of importance.
