THE NATSONAL DAIRY SHOW.
"GREAT SCHEMES IN THE AIR," .It is possible thai something, more, may be l hoard before long of the proposal made in Tub Dominion recently in regard to the mill tor of extending -the .scope of the National" Dairy Show. Discussing this matter, the "jranawatu Standard" fay* there are-great schemes in the nil-, and the ullhi-entlitisiasts are beginning to declare that tlio Kjtliiiß of the Winter Showis no longer adcciuate.', They suggest that the present show should bo transformed into ii huge carnival covering weeks, instead of 1 days. Some of the enthusiasts, it is staled, propose that there should be a-daily produce week, a local industries week, a fruit weok,. a poultry week, a sports week, and motor carnival. "At the bottom of all the contentions," says the "Standard," "lies the' substantial argument that attractions widely national in their character would draw eucli crowds from Dunedin to the far north as to command the support and co-operation of that part.of tho mercantile population in a position to profit by the. event. Thus, .■Wolliiigtnn city would regard the carnival as its own property, and' rally Tonne! it accordingly." The scheme suggested above has a rather extravagant ring, but there is no doubt room for extending the scope of the show, a.nd it would.not be surprising to see tho matter ventilated at the forthcoming annual meeting of the Jtanawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association.
