At a luncheon at Parliament; House, tho Governor-General (Lord Denman), in replying to tho toast of his health, referred to tho fact .that when he used to follow steepleohasiDg his horses won when ho Tode them himself. "I have had many pleasant days on the racecourse in England," said his Lordship, "and many also in Australia, and I hope to be able to continue my pursuit of that engrossing sport in this country." Referring to his experience in tho House of Lords, the Governor-General said he thought politics was one of the finest professions, but it was never so difficult as it was to-day. ;
