[Br Glencoe.] An Australian writer, in referring to the excellent track form being shown by the rejuvenated warrior, Bribery, said -it would bo too much, perhaps, to ask the old liorse, now in his twelfth year, to account for the team of brilliant hurdlers which were opposed to him Jost Saturday, but all going well with him he could reasonably be expected in his present form' to take his own partun the big steeplechase. > A farly largo number of horses should be quartered at Trentham by Saturday next, and some interesting schooling may bo looked for. St. Petersburg, the half-brother to Danube, was shipped south last evening on his way to Oamaru. W. Mould, who has been stud groom at Oamaru for somo time, came north to hand over Peter Pan, and took St. Petersburg back with him. ' The Grand National Steeplechase favourite, Continuance, is due to arrive here on Friday evening. Master Paul, who is engaged in the Wellington Steeplechase, is said to be ono of the most promising 'chasers seen out at Kiccarton for a long time. Several prosecutions for alleged belting in hotels in the city will come before the Court on Monday next. A local sportsman would like to know if any members of the Education Commission were present in a railway carriage recently when he overheard a voting man ponJmunicate this thrilling fact to a companion:—"Ho went down the line, and blued all his money but ten bob. Ho was coming home, when he met a bloke who told him that he would give him a cert, for the last for two bob. He coughed up the two bob, and backed it for eight, and won two quid."

The Wellington Racing Club has an. plied for October 26 and October 28 as dates for its spring meeting. Tho latter day is Labour Day, a, holiday that the Metropolitan Club has engaged for the last two seasons. Notice has-been given that the Canterbury Jockey Club intend objecting before the Dates Committee to these dates, as the spring meeting o'f the C.J.C. opens gn November 2, which is the' Saturday following. The Auckland horseman J. Jones, who has several engagements to rido. at Trentham next week, reached Wellington .last evening. After the Trentham meeting he will return homo to school Dunborve and Sphinx for F. Stenning, and will then proceed to Hiccarton for the - Grand National meeting. Weights for the principal events at tho Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National meeting nre duo to-morrow. Nodra, for the Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase, is the only official scratching notified in connection with tlie Winter meeting 'of the Wellington Racing Club, which opens next Wednesday. The Achilles—Strathspey colt purchased at the last Waiknnae btud sale has been thrown out of training owing to his increasing size. He will not be taken up again until well into the spring. It is now stated that Antarctic will be ridden in his Trentham and Ric?tirton engagements by J.
