Our Girls' Victoria League,
I The usual fortnightly meeting of the Our Girls' Branch of tiio Victoria League was held last evening, Mrs. Corliss presiding. An interesting debate took , place on "Should Dumestic Training be Oom-pjjj-sory?" Hiss Cleghorn uud Miss ])ora Snirtclitrc leading the discussion, and the Hisses Davis ami Wilson opposing. The motion was finally lost by two votes. For •their next evening, July 24, the Our Girls' branch will read papers nn "How ■ to Manage a Hu.sband if 1 iiad one." This novel subject should prove both instructive and amusing, and a prize tor the best paper will bo presented by Mrs. Atkins. Miss Grade Moncrieff, Salamanca Road, has left town on a visit to friends in C'arterton, Wairarapa. Tho Hon. Mr. Louisson arid Mrs. Louisson arrived from the south by the Maori on Sunday. i The following visitors are staying at the Occidental Hotel:—Mr., Mrs., and Miss Herbert, Palniorston North; Mr. and Mrs. I M'Lay (Mnsterton), Mr. and Mrs. Moodie (Cdutorbury), Dr. Cawkwell (Auckland), Dr. Paxton, Mr. Bartlctt, and Mr. and Mr?. Scott, M.P. (Dunedin). Messrs. Sykes, M.P., Smith, M.P., and Anderson, M.P., aro also stopping at the Occidental Hotel. Miss Gipsy Curtis, who has beea staying with the Rev. Blarnires and Mrs. Blaniires, left for Otaki yesterday. Mrs. Stanley M'Laren, of Takapau, is in town. Miss Myrtle Barber, who sailed for England in February last, is pursuing her musical studies at tho Hoyal Academy of Music, London. A pleasant time was spent at the Masonic Hall kit evening, when Miss Cowley entertained a number of friends on the occasion of her twenty-first birthday, about fifty couples being present. Part of the evening was devoted do euchre, and concluded with a musical programme and dance. Mr. G. B.
