LIEUT EVANS.
HONOURED BY THE KINS. (By Telejraph.-Prosj Association.) Christchureh, July 8. News" of Lieutenant Evans, second in command of the British Antarctic Expedition, under whose command tho Terra -Nova was brought back to Lyttelton, was recoived by cable yesterday by Mr. T. G. Russell, of /this cifjf. According to the cablo message, Lieutenant Evans was recently directed to attend upon his Majesty tho King at Buckingham Palace, to give an account of the expedition to the extent of his knowledge of it. Subsequently Lieutenant Evans was promoted to the rank of commander in tho Royal Navy. It is understood that Commander Evans is tho youngest holder of that rank in the British Navy.
