ANGLICAN SYNOD.

YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. The annual meeting of tho Anglican hynod of tho Ddocese of Wellington was resumed on Friday, tho Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott) presiding. EAETIHI PARISH. Tho committee appointed to consider tho possibility of the division of the Raetihi parochial district reported that a division was absolutely essential, and recommended a dividing lino between Ohakune and liaetihi. It was considered «*»- each of " 10 ncvr districts could raise £Uo per annum Tho Bishop and tho standing- Committee worn recommended to ellect tho subdivision as soon as nossible. * COMMITTEE REPORTS. Maori Mission Fund. The report on the Maori mission fund, tho committeo noted with satisfaction, 6howed substantial increases of .E3l in offertories, .£3l in Maori contributions and ,£UO in contributions. This increase, it was stated, fully justified the proposed increase in the stipend of tho Maori clergy (of which notice of motion had been given), and also,, if the increase continued, additions to tho staff, a still further increaso of stipond. At the evening session, on the motion of tho Eov. A. M.' Johnson, the Synod confirmed the reconameidation of tho Standing Committeo,-to increase by .£lO each tho stipends of the Maori clergy at present at work in the Diocese..

Melanesian Mission. TJio report on the Melanesian mission showed a fnlling- off in tlio receipts from tho "Southern. Cross Log," and from tho annual offertory. The committee recommended:—"That it. bo a, recommendation to the authorities of all parishes and parochial districts, ivhen the Sunday for any special offertory is wet, to .adopt such method of making up tho deficiency on a subsequent Sunday as may seem to them most expedient. ,

OtaTci School. , . . ■ The report of Mr. Blathwayt and the Government. Inspector showed . that the school, in spite of the long' interregnum, is in a thoroughly ( sound condition, supplying efficient training, physical, mental, and moral., Tho committee also noted with satisfaction that so inuch work about the school itsolf had been done by the resident pupils. Could any scheme, it was asked, be devised for helping them after they leave school in starting a useful life? . »

Pension Fund. In the report on the Pension Fund, regret was expressed that a condition stipulated'for by the actuary prevents the trustees recommending any increase in pensions, but in its ignorance of theso conditions, can make no comment. No recommendation was brought forward, as tl)o matter was being brought before Synod as a special Bill. ' Wauganui College. Tho committee congratulated the authorities, on the occupation of the new buildings. Tho consequent improvement in tho general health of the boys and the maintenance of - scholastic efficiency in spite of adverse circumstances. Tho comniitteo trusted that tho hopes entertained for tho erection of a fourth house •might be speedily realised. - ( ~s -v' /Hadiiold Hostel. ~ : Reporting''on the finances of tha'Had- ' field Hostel.the committee . noted ."that ""IhS'-deficlt' in the: GoVcrnori*'account' was ■ increasing at the rate of about ,£3O per annum, and that a chance in the system was contemplated, .to effect an improvement in tho financial position during the present year. The committee' regretted that the students' fees had not suffered of there being no rent to pay. With strict economy aad slightly, increased fees, the committee pointed out, it should not be' difficult to make a profit of at least £2b a [year, which would cover' the cost of maintenance ond ..ordinary repairs. Tho committee Tecommehded:—"That the trustees of Hatlfield Hostel consider the advisability of charging a remunerative rate." Church Building Fund. The committee noted that no action had boen taken in- the matter of providing a fund for Church building, and recommended that this matter be again referred to the Standing Committee. Attention was directed to the proposal to divert the Pan-Anglican thank; Offering to the enlargement of the buildings,, and also to the undebtcdness of tho diocese to the trustees for assuming personal responsibility for the undertaking. It was recommended that a loan be raised by the issue of debentures, for the purpose of enlarging tho school, and for raising capital necessary : for acquiring tho property. STANDING COMMITTEE. •■

Tho Synod, at 10.45 p.m., adjourned tall Monday afternoon. ' WANGANUI CHURCH ACRE. . At the evening session the Synod further debated tho Rev. H. Reeve's motion: that this Synod diTects the Diocesan Board ot ; Trustees to take tho necessary steps to lease the balance of the Wangamn Ohurch aorc, and to. apply'the proceeds therefrom towards erecting a church upon some more suitable and central site, and towards erecting a church at St. John's and at UonviHe on a site already obtained, and lor such other purposes as the Diocesan Synod shall from time to time direct Provided ' that the balance of the acre leased shall be carefully dug over and any remains of bodies found therein shall be buried at the public cemetery, Wanganui, or as directed by the Synod, and provided also that.after provision has been made for the above purposes, the proceeds shall bo held by the Diocesan Board 0 f trustees on trust for the benefit of the whole district of Wanganui and the paro;plal_district of Aranioho-Waitotara, and the Wanganui parochial district, as the Diocesan Synod may from time to time direct. , There was a lengthy discussion, and considerable interest was evinced in the division called for by the mover. The motion was lest, (he voting being:-Clergv—W*>s 20; noes, 31. Laity-Ayes, 16; now, 18. PAROCHIAL DISTRICTS ACT. Tim SynaiO in committee, further considered the clauses of the Bill which was introduced by Archdeacon Harper to amend the Parochial Districts Act. The proposal to confer upon non-resi-dents of a parochial district eligibility lor election as vestrymen was rejected Several amendments, constituting machinery for tho better and more effective organisation of parochial districts were adopted.Tho following new.clause was udopt-ed -"The curate and vestry of any parochiai district winch has not been subdivided or of any sub-district, may make any part wherein divine services are held regularly into a committee district, providing for (ho appointment of a committee "with such powers and duties* as may be deemed expedient." . ;■ Provision was made, for -tho'constitution of central parochial committees, consisting of (ho curate, together with the several churchwardens and the secretary aml treasurer- of -committees in any particular parnchiel district, to deal njth (innnoi.il matters affecting the district as a whole.
