BANK KATES OF DISCOUNT. The Bank of England rate was. on Dicomber 1, 1910, lowered from 5 to 4J per cent.: on January 27 it was lowered to 4 per cent., ou February 16 to 3J per cent., and on March 9 to 3 per cent. On September 21 it was advanced to 4 per cent., on February 8 it was reduced to 3J per cent., nnd on Hay 9 to 3 per cent. The Bank of France rate was reduced from 3J to 3 per 02nt. on January 23. 1908. and continued at the latter figure until September 21. 1911, when it was .raised to 31 per cent. On May 17, 1912, it was reduced to '3 per cent. The Imperial Bank of Gurmany reduced Its rate from 5 to 45 per cent, on February 6, and on February 19 the rate was further reduced to 4 per cent. On September 19, the rate was raiecd to 5 per cent., and on June 11, 1912, it was reduced to 41 per cent. MAP.KET RATES OF DISCOUNT. The first annual report of the above company for tho year ended May 31, 1912, has been circulated, and we extract the following :— Tho directors are glad to say that, beyond a temporary eursperusion of operations for a few weeks prior to the Christmas holidays, the company ha,s not participated in the labour disputes that have prevailed for some months between tho mine-owners and miners at Eoefton,' and which recently culminated in a strike. Our mino mana?cr considers these disputes have been "more bciic/lcial to the company than otherwise, as it has ■ resulted m the company getting good competition for its contracts, and splendid progress has been made with tho erection of plant, buildings, and mining work since operations wore resumed. Of the 500 feet of shaft-sinking the company have undertaken to do, 217 tect have been completed. A contract has been let to citend No. 5 level, and it is expected to cut the first block of stone in this level within four months from the time the contractors commence work.
■ The machinery and electric lighting plant have stood satisfactory tests, and with the exception of two rock drills and a. cha.nging-hou.se for the men. the cost of all plant has been accounted for in the balance-sheet. The Mount Morgan returns for Juno showthat the copper reduction works treated 25,147 tons of ore, which produced 746 tons of pure copper and 8467 ounces of gold.
