Reports to hand yesterday contained information stating that the weather on tho West Coast of tho South Island was bad - ' Telegraphic advice received from Greymouth stated that Uiore was a "fresh" in the river, also that there was no chrJice of any shipping movements there yesterday. The Eotoiti was hung up inside the bar. and her chances of getting out beforo to-day were not very bright. The Haupiri, which was outside, was signalled to put back to Wostport. During the day tho weather at Wostport had changed for the worse. It was expected that tho Waihora would bo ablo to get away for Wellington to-day. TUKAKIN'A LEAVES LONDON. After having been delayed a month at London tho Now Zealand Shipping Coinpanv's E.M.S. Turakina left Loudon for Wellington, via Cape Town and Hobart, on Thursday. July 4. The usual call at Plymouth has been cut out this voyage. 'Die vessel has been delayed at Homo on account of the transport workers' strike. August 23 is tho date on which the Turakina is expected to arrive at Wellington. STAR OF CANADA INQUIRY. Arrangements arc being made to hold a. magisterial inquiry into tho wreck of the Sta.r of Canada at Gisborre. The nautical assessors have not yet been appointed. The Collector of Customs at tlisborno is arranging for such menihare 'of the 'esssl's crew who cannot gel jobs on vessels tailing for Uomo to be sent to England. AEAWA LEAVES MONTE VIDEO. Cable advice, received bv the local agents for the Shaw. Savill and Albion Company states that E.M.S. Arawa continued her journey from Monte Video to London on the morning of Wednesday, July 3. The Arawa hft Wellington for tho Home port, on Jinip 13, and is duo at hor destination on July 26. RATHEE CAUSTIC. After waiting over four weeks, Messrs. Millar Bros., o'f Port Chalmers, have been informed bv tho Marine Department that they mav proceed to lengthen the Bluff cutter Water Lily, which recently Mine to Port Chalmers for that purpose. The delay seems to bo duo to tho fact that amongst its army of ship inspectors the Marine Department has not a. shipwright inspector to survey wooden vessels-Dim-ediu "Star."

Having finished lior work at Cape Palliser, yesterday, the Government steamer Binimoa left lor Portland Island light at 10 a.m. The Tyscr liner Murltai is expected to leave Wellington for Lyttelton early tomorrow morning. After a smart passage of 39 hours, tho auxiliary scow Echo arrived at West Haven from Wellington on Thursday aflernoon. Tho sailer subsequently proceeds to Kelson. On Monday tho Union Company's steamer Corinna is duo in port from New Plymouth. Sho returns to that port,, Bailmg at 6 p.m. the same day. Irom l\o\v Plymouth tho Corinna proceeds direct to Dimeitiu. The Nikau's trip from Kelson to Welling ton to-day haw been abandoned. Messrs. liannatyjio and Co., local agents,, for tho vessel, received tolcgraphio advice last evening which stated that a northerly galo. accompanied by heavy rain and thick foe, wa.3 responsible foe the vessel not leaving for Wellington. Tho Nikau wili arrivo in port on Tuesday morning as usual, and Bails at 5 p.m. for Nelson and Motuekc tho samo day. A new boiler for tho steamer Queen of tho South is being brought to Wellington by the Awahou from Glasgow. It wJJI bo landed on Monday. It was an early hour this morning before tho Warrimoo left Wellington for Sydney. Tho delay was caused owing to a defect in one of tier boilers. A couple of tube 3 woro found to bo leaking, repairs being effected after midnight.
