The Commonwealth is forming an aviation corps, and purchased two biplanes and two monoplanes of tho typo recommended by tho War Office. FATALITY IN RUMANIA. , Bukarest, July i. Lieutenant Carande, whilst aeroplaninjr at Cotroceni, fell 300 feet, and was killed. A PRECDRSOR OF AVIATION. (Rec. July 5, 11.5 p.m.) Paris, July 5. A remarkable Franco-Italian' denienstratiou took place at tho Sorbonno yesterday, in' honour of Leonardo da Vinci, the precursor of aviation. Tho Premier, M. Poincairo, and the Italian Ambassador, M. Tittoni, delivered speeches. Leonardo da Vinci, tho great Italian painter, sculptor, architect, musici.in, mechanician, engineer, nnd natural philosopher, was born in 1452, and died in 1519. Ho approached tho subject of flight in a much more eoientiflo spirit than any of his predecessors, and his notebooks contain drawings of wings to bo fitted to tho arms and legs.
