'J'aft. Mr. Bryan, after tlio balloting, delivered what'ho described as his valedictory speech. Ho declared that lie joyfully surrendered into Jlv. Wilson's hands tlio standard which ho h<ul carried through threo campaigns. He predicted that tlio Progressive Republicans would support Mr. Wilson, who would bo elected by a majority of 2,000,000 votes. Mr. Champ Clark congratulated Mr. Wilson on his success. Ho attributed his own defeat to Mr. Bryan's danders. Jtr. Wilson's platform was adopted unanimously. Tlio platform favours tho immediate downward revision of tariffs, tho frco passage of American ships through tho Panama Canal, with prohibition of uso of tho canal by milrond-owncd vessels. A single term for Presidential appointments is also favoured.
After nominating the Presidential candidate, tho Convention proceeded to select a candidate for tho Vice-Presidency. Mr. Bryan declined to accept nomination for tlio position, <is did Mr. Champ Clark also. Mr. T. R. Marshall, Governor of. Indiana was then nominated.
Mr. Roosevelt has issued a manifosto in which Jio declares that tlio result of tho Baltimore Convention will not affect tho third party or his candidature, as both tho Republican and Democratic Conventions aro ruled by "bosses" of tho Eamo type.
