(From Cur Ssscial Correecocdcnt.) . Palmerston North, July 2. Tho monthly meeting of the Campbell Street School Committee was held last night, the liev, T, T. Thomas presiding. 'I ho headmaster, 11 r. F. E. Watson, reported the roll number to be 716, with an average attendance of IiSIS. Messrs. Mathicson and Neilson, of . the .lackeytown School Committee, attended as a deputation to urgo the formation of a School Committees' Association. The chairman was appointed to confer with the chairmen of the other town committees with tho view of calling a mooting of tho school committees of tho district, with tho object of forming such an association. The question of forming a separata education district was also discussed, but it was decided to leave this matter over till a School Committees' Association had been forme I. Correspondence was read from (ho Wanganui Education Hoard, to the effect that it would not tako official cognisance of any surplus funds being spent by the committee on the construction of swimming baths at the school. Messrs. Pickering and Ilorsnell were appointed a visiting committee for the ensuing month. At tho weekly meeting of the Management Committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union last night, Mr. A. Is'. Gibbons, on behalf of the representative team which visited Napier on Saturday, presented the manager of the team (Mr. W. Kobinson) with a silver-mounted pipe, in appreciation of tho manner in which ha had carried out his duties.

■ The correct weight of the sheep at tho sheep-guessing competition at the Wittier Show was guessed by quito a number of people, and tho competition, as arranged, was settled on the guess for the single sheep. It was won bv H. C. Young, of Hawera, W. Balsilfie, of Kairanga, being se;ond.

There wero some two, hundred visitors at tho exhibition of physical culture given by tho lady members of the Palmerston Physical 'Training School at tho Drill Hall last night. At tho conclusion the Mayor complimented the trainer (Mr. Allen) on the progress which had been made in tho short time which had elapsed sinco the classes were formed.

A Harriers' Club lias- been formed at Palmcrston, and the following officers elected:—Patron, Lord Islington; president, Mr. D. Buick, M.P.; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. A. Nash, It. M'Nab, M. A. Eliott, N. H. Nash, H. R. Cooper, H. J. Canton, E. I). Hobcn, n. R. AA'oon, S. Scifert, A. Seifert, AV. C. G. Smith, T. Htubbs, Captain Hobin-son, Drs. Peach, Martin, and O'Brien; committee, Messrs. T. Neal, JC. Miller, T. Hogan.E. H. Culver, n. Speed', J. C'. Walsh, E. A. Palliser; secretary .and treasurer, Mi*. J. P. M'Davitt; chairman, Mr. D. Park; club captain, Mr. ,T. I'. M'Davitt; vice-captain, Jlr. T. Neal; handicapper, -Mr. T. Stubbs; starter, Mr. J. !•'. Manning; timekeeper, Mr. N. P. Stiibbs. It -was decided to hold the first run on AVednesday.

At tho Police Court to-day, before Mr. A. D. Thomson, S.M., a Maori named Hingft AVuta Tuparoa was brought up on a serious charge. It was alleged that thooffence had. been committed at Motuiti on April 29. Accused was remanded till Monday. Bail was aske dfor, but the police objected. The annual meeting of tho Palmerston No-License League was held last evening when the following officers were elected:— President, Mr. E. 11. Crabb; vice-presi-dents, the Kevs. A. Doull, T. T. Thomas, G.''AV. J. Epence, U. Hird, T. M'Honald, M. Christcnsen, Adjutant Melksham, Messrs. L. A. Johnston, and D. AV. Low; secretary, Mr. R. Bycroft; treasurer, Mr. J. B. Gerrand. It was reported that tho League had spent about JiTSO in fighting its cause lest year.

AVhen tho annual election of the School Committer; took place in April, the election at Tinted fell through for want of a quorum. The following hove now been elected: Messrs. H. Price, AV. Mexted, Mason, G. Greer, AV. Thomson, Georgo' Greer (chairman), and A. Ilonore (secretary and treasurer).
