Recently 3Jessrs. J. B. MacEwan and °f W«HiiiKton, wrote to tlie Wellington Cliamber of Commerco regarding difficulties which they had experienced in shipping cliceso to South Africa. The matter was explained in a letter written by the firm to ATi>«rs Huddart, Parker and Co. This letter stated:— n nr ? to find that tno 1)111 of lading is endorsed 'insufficient package,' localise this endorsement is llot in accordance with facts, and you will remember that, somo time, ago, we dbemsed this question with you. M'n suggested that you inspect the shipments, and wo *e.tPi rc f' s A' 10 that you would agree that the packing could not be improved upon, been use, in our jrnlgment, dm cases only contain about SO to 8-ilb., as compared with tho usual .export eases o£ 160 to 1701b . Hie timber is of sufficient thickness o give the necessary strength, and the. ease 3 arc wire-bound at both cuds. The reply of Messrs. Huddart, Parker and Co. was to tho effect that they could-not get a clean receipt, from the lilies carrying the chcefj from Svdnev to Upo town, and they had to" protect themselves. Mr. C. V. Jones sngjested that tho firm mentioned should ship throueli tho Aberdeen-White Star Ageucv in Wellineton. h It was decided that the Sj-dnev Cham])3r oj Commerce be communicated with in order b seewhat cla.'s of cheese ca-e was accepted in Sydney' by the Aiis-tiahan-South African lines.
