ROMNEY MARSH BREEDERS

CONCERNING THE FLOCK' BOOK. Tho full terms of the motion regarding tho reopening of the Flock Hook, •iM.ved by Mr. \V. J. Birch, of Thoresby, Marlon, at tho annual meeting of the luimney Marsh Sheep Breeders' Association, at Palmerston last week, were:— "That the council be recommended to take steps to ammul Kulo 10 so as to permit the entry of flocks other than th?se already entered in tho Association's Flock Book; provided that they have been already registered in other recognised Flock Books, and lift subject to inspection and recommendation by tho committee of the association." Tho fact is, Mr. Birch explains, that several liomuey flocks in the South Island did not join the association before tho time the books wore closed, but they remained registered in the South Island Flock Book. It seems absurd, he adds, that shcGp of assured breeding and inspection should not bo admitted when bit light to the North Island, simplv because their owners did not register at tho time of compilation of the first volume. "L tako it," says Mr. Birch, "that the objcct of a breed society should be 1? , ? a rp sister ol> nil pure, sheep of Uat class which are maintained at a proper standard of quality, and that it is noc politic or right' to confine entries ™ t'losc who entered at a certain (late, thus treating a clo : c monopoly."
