DEATH AFTER A CHILL. An inquest regarding the death of Patrick Jl'Anally, a single young uinn, who (lied in the hospital on Wednesday Inst, was held before Jlr. W. G, Uiddoll, on Saturday, Kathrinc Stnnway, sister of doceased, whn resides with Jier mother at lOti Taranaki Street, ravo evidence to tho effect that her brother hud contracted a chill on Monday, and had not been well on that day and Tuesday. They kept him warm with rugs and gave- him spirits. On Wednesday morning Dr. Martin was sent for, aiid tho patient was removed to tho hospital. As far as sho knew there was no medicine which ho could have taken without her knowledge. Dr. H. D. Hobcrtson, assistant house surgeon at tho Wellington Hospital, saw the deceased after his admission to tho hospital, and, on oxnminin? him, found that ho was suffering from a severe cold. Ho nlso complained of pain in the stomach, nnd his legs wcro swollen. Ho died at 1.20 p.m. on Thursday, and Dr. liobertson conducted a post-mortem examination during the course- of tho same day. There was nothing to indicate- the direct cause of death. ' Tho inquest was adourncd till Thursday morning, ponding tho result of an analysis wljich is being made. > SUDDEN DEATH. A man named F. Charles Marquant is reported to havo dic.l suddenly at tho Zealaudia Private llotol. yesterday morning. ilr. John Garrctt, a friend of deceased, went to his room at a little before 9 o'clock yesterday morning—it was Jiis practice (c> pay a Sunday morning visit— and found that deceased was breathing heavily. Ho endeavoured to rouse him, but could not do so. He stayed in tho room for over an hour, whe,n deceased suddenly sat up in bed, opened his eyes, and then fell back dead. Deceased, who was in the employ of Jlr. Dunbar Sloane, chemist, a single man, 39 years of age, and it is thought that his parents live in Australia. An inquest will bo held at tho morgue this' afternoon. Regarding the death of Mrs. Helen M'Hwraith, who died suddenly on Wednesday j last, Dr. Shand deposed at the inquest conducted by- Dr. M'Arthnr, S.M., on Saturday .morning, that ho had attended deceased for some time past, aiid that she had been suffering from insomnia and general depression. Witness believed that deceased had died, through poisoning. Tho' Coroner found, that the deceased had tomo to her death by taking lysol while she was in a state of utter, despondency. ! -,
