MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
(Before Mr. W. G. Kiddell, S.M.) Hay Gibbous was before the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning on a charge of assaulting .Mary Bond. She. was remanded till July 5. James Moore pleaded not guilty to a charge of having deserted from s.s. Pakeha at Auckland on May 31. Pending information from Auckland ho was remanded until July 3. ;j Robert James Tyler, a steward on s.s. Rotorua, was charged with stealing condensed milk, the property of the New Zealand Shipping Company. Altogether he purloined G7 tins, 19 tins on June 21, and 48 tins on June 26,-the total value being 255. Accused pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment. Harry James Olsen was charged with having received the stolen goods. It ap-' peareel from the evidence that the tins were served out to Tyler (who was in the habit of wrapping them up in the washing). It was urged in Olsen's defence that he was unaware that the goods had been dishonestly come by. He was fined 40s. on. one.count and ordered to como up for sentence when called up upon another. ' , . , Charles Hill was fined ss. for insobnety and fivo first offenders were also dealt with. , ~ Hugh M'Jlahon was convicted and discharged for insobriety, but was fined 40s. or seven days' imprisonment in default for resisting Constable Sleeth. For resisting Constable Smart in the execution of his duty William Conlson was also fined 40s. with a similar alternative. '
