ARCHBISHOP'S LIBEL.
JUDGMENT FOR £1000.
By Tcloiraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rcc. Juno 21, 8.35 p.m.) Melbourne, Jnne 21. Archbishop Clarko's libel action against John Norton, proprietor of tho newspaper "Truth," for libel, has been soil led. Tho Judge, on taking his seat to-day, announced that tho jury would bo discharged till to-morrow. Subsequently counsel for the defendant stated that after heaving evidence of tho plaintiff, the defendant was satisfied that tho articlo coinplaincd of was unjustified, and desired to apologise and withdraw it. By consent, there would be a verdict for ■iIIOOO, with costs. Tho costs will include tho cost of tho commission sent to England to collect evidence.
Judgment was entered accordingly for tho plaintiff.
