REVOLUTION IN RUBBER.

Perkin, of Manchester, has announced the discovery of a synthetic rubber which can be manufactured on a commercial scale at a cost of half-a-crown a pound, which may bo reduced to a. shilling. Fuoeloil is produced from the starch in maize, and then converted into isoprene, from which the rubber is extracted by contact with sodium.
