By Telegraph-Frees Associatlon-CopTTteht London, June 14. The match between the Australians and Lancashire was continued to-day. The weather was bright at intervals. The attendance was small. Improvement was noticeable in tho wicket, which had hardened. . Macartney (72) was accompanied to the wickets by Hazlitt. Heap and Dean bowled With 7 runs added, Hazlitt miss-hit a skier off Dean to mid-off. Sharp holding the catch. Six for 137. Emery followed, and he and Macartney added 19 when the latter, in pulling a short ball, was taken finely by Dean off Heap. His score of 80 was compiled in two hours, and was a splendid display. The total included a 6 and six 4's. The remaining three wickets added 21, of which Whitty got 17 by hard driving. The innings concluded for 177, made in three hours; Spooner and Makepeace opened the county's second innings to the attack o£ Emery and Hazlitt. The former gave chances off Emery at 1 and 12. He batted forty minutes for 25. Kelleway stopped the next man, J. T. Tyldesley, with a clever Tight-handed catch wide in the slips, off Whitty. Makepeace was batting soundly. The half-century appeared in fifty minutes. Whitty and Kelleway were the bowlers' after lunch. Sharp was taken by Carkeek at short-stop off M'Laren, and after butting 120 minntes Makepeace put his leg in front to one from Matthews. Makepeace had boen in while 101 runs were scored.
The century was posted as the result of 15 minutes' play.
E. Tyldefiley scored six in- twenfr-seven minutes. He'gave a chance in the slips to Matthews, off M'Laren. A feature of the innings was the partnership between Brooke and Whitehead, which added 63. At the tea' adjournment, Brooke was 1C and Whitehead 21. Both showed splendid driving powers, scoring 18 in two overs off Matthews, including one six. The partnership put on 35 in fifteen minutes. On resuming, Kelleway and Matthews I bowling, 28 runs were added. Brooke, from a ekier, was co.ught by M'Laren at the on. Tho bowling .was,resolute. Whitehead scored 33 in thirty-five minutes. He added two, and then made a bad stroke and was bowled by Emery. He had been forty-five minutes in and his score included a six and five fours. The innings occupied 195 minutes. A shower, of rain then delayed piny for twenty-five minutes. Jennings and Kelleway opened for Australia, who required 158 to win, Dean and Whitehead bowling. The light was defective-. Brooke, standing back from the wickets, caught Jennings off Whitehead. Kelloway and Whitty played out time. The attendance numbered 2500 after ■lunch. : SATORDAY'S PLAY. (Rec. June 16, 5.5 p.m.) London, June 15. The Australia-Lancashire match was resumed to-day in bright weather, with a high wind blowing. The wicket wassoftish, and soon became difficult. The attendance at the opening was small. A feature of the match was,the fine.bowling of Dnan \m\ Heap, the latter taking five wickets for 26 riins, of which three fell after luncheon for five runs.
Huddlestbn and Dean resumed the afe tack, and Kelleway, without any addition to.his overnight score, was dismissed by a shooter. Dean got Whitty off his pad. Bardsley was brilliantly caught by Hornby low down'. at mid-on, and Macartney was dismissed by a high right-handed catch in the slips after giving, a difficult chance at 2!> to J. Giinn off Whitehead. He batted for 75 minutes. Matthews was splendidly caught at silly point. The century was Teached in 125 minutes. At the luncheon adjournment the score stood at six wickets for 117.
On resuming, the attendance was 3000. Heap and Dean were the bowl'ers. Gregory, without increasing his score, was brilliantly caught at short-leg by Hud-' dlestone with his left hand. He batted for SO minutes indifferently, giving a chance at. one off Huddleston and a second at 17 off Heap. Emery was caught at long-off by Makepeace, and M'Laren returned the ball to the bowler.
