JOHNSONVILLE TOWN BOARD.
': / « OFFICE BUILDINGS OPENED BY MR. BELL, M.P. The new Town Board offices at Johnsonville were opened by Mr. W. H. D. 8011, member for Wellington Suburbs, on Saturday afternoon. The weather hindered the proceedings to a considerable extent, ami the ceremony, which was to have been held in the open, was eventually concluded in the buildings, as a severe thunderstorm mado an open-air gathering undesirable. In regard to the premises, it may bo stated that the board had been authorised to spend any amount up to .£BOO, and they "went the limit," paying -E3OO for the ground and .£SOO for the erection of tho buildings. At present the buildings are lighted by a temporary gas plant, pending the completion of a petrol-gas olaut, which is to be installed in an adjoining building. This plant will also bo capable of lighting the ,wholo town. Mr. Bell, in (he coiu-so of a. short speech, congratulated the board on tho energy which they had shown in erecting such offices, and upon their_ general forward policy. Re commented in_ terms of praise upon the board's action in applying'for an improved railway service to Wellington, nnd he sincerely hoped that {hey would soon bo accommodated, not' only with a better service, but with a station more fitted to meet the expanding requirements of tho town. lie further congratulated them upon their new drainageVnd water-works schemes, which were now nearly completed. In conclusion Mr. 801 l thanked them for the honour which they had done him in asking him to op£>:i the new edifice, and added that he was proud to bo in 'a position where he could look- after their interests from tho standpoint of a member of Parliament. ' . Mr D. M'Laron (Mayor of Wellington) also made a short speech, congratulating the board oil recent operations. _ Ko dwelt upon the friendly relations existing l b»tween tho board and tho City Council, and expressed "the hope that those- relation.* would continue. . Luke, .V. G. Moore, and ItagVertj : " (chairman of' the Makarti County Council) also spoke. \ ffor the ceremony the visitors wero entertained by Mr. W. Thompson (chairman of tho Town Board), • and his iet-low-conimissioners at afternoon tea.
