rOOK DEMAND FOR ORANGES. The Allen and Blair Street market has been well supplied with Island oranges niid local apples during Uie week, but tho demand for all lines has been poor. About 1000 cases of oranges from Raro ; tonga arrived in Wellington early in the week having been transhipped from tiio Talune at Auckland. Tho bulk of tho shipment arrived in bad/ to poof ardor, and prices only averaged 2s. (id. to -is. per case. Dessert apples arc fairly plentiful, shipments coming to hand freely from Port Albert and Motueka. There is, however, very little _ demand. Any ciioieo lines are worlh from ss. to 7s. per case. Large green cooking sorts are scarce, and good sample will bring ss. (ill. to (is. Gd. per ease. Other sorts are selling at 'Is. to as. There is a fair demand for Mildura lemons, and a shipment which arrived yesterday brought lis. to lis. per bushel 'case. Passion fruit from New .South Wales sold at ss. to Bs. per half gin-case. Only small shipments ot pineapples from Queensland are now coming to hand, and values range from 7s. to 125., according to size and 'Condition. There is a fair demand lor mandarins packed in gin cases' at 10s. to 12s. Cd. Choice descriptions of pears are scarce, local supplies being almost finished. Choice Winter Nelis sell at Bs. to 10s. per ease. Other varieties (incst)y inferior) bring from ss. to Bs. Outdoor-grown'tomatoes are about over for the season, the few cases coming to hand realising (is. (id. to 7s. lid. Hothouse-grown tomatoes are available at !)s. to 10s. per case. Picmclons from Australia are now coming to hand, and realise Gd. to Is. Gd. each, according In size. Choice hothouse grapes are very scarce, fine particularly choice line grown at the Lower Hutl. made Is. Ifld. per lb. yesterday. Other sorts, not so good, sold at from Is. 2d. to Is. 3d. All descriptions of vegetables arc fairly plentiful, fhero is no improvement to report in tho demand for cabbages, best descriptions selling at Is. Gd. to 2s. Gd. por sack; other sorts being Gd. to Is. Cauliflowers ftio fairly plentiful, choico sorts bringing 7s. to 9s. per sack; other descriptions is. to Gs. Beetroot is selling at 3s. per sack. Outdoor-grown French beans are now finished, but several lines grown in the hothouse have tome forward and cmnmancU'd lOd. per lb. The market is well supplied with parsnips at 3s. to ss. per sack. Carrots are plentiful at 2s. Gd. to Is. per sack. Swedes are in good demand at from 2s. lid. to 3s. Gd. per cwt. Lettuce are worth 2s. to 3s. per case. Choice whit? celery is in strong demand and several lines sold during the week at lis. per dozen. Pumpkin* are plentiful at •!*. to ss. per sack, and vegetable marrows bring K to as.
