THE PRICE OF LAND.
A FARMER ON PRESENT RATES. During' the cf an address at a Timaru Farmers' Union gathering last Saturday, Mr. J. Talbot said: "The past year lias been decidedly a favourable one tor farmers. Good prices have been the rule for all kinds of farm and dairy produce, and the volume of the output is generally above the average. The price of land rules high, notwithstanding the stringency that has prevailed for some time past in the money market. In fact, the high prices now being paid in some cases for land are the most disquieting phase in the. present outlook. I am inclined to the opinion that although the present price for wheat is good, and the prospects are fair for another year, the area, that is being sown this autumn with wheat is not so largo as usual, due partly to a Into harvest this year, and partly no doubt to the scarcity of suitable farm labour, both at the present time, and in prospective." .
