TITANIC DISASTER.
LACK OF DISCIPLINE ALLEGED. By Teleerapi—Press AssoelaUon-OoDyrljiliJ New York, May 28. Senator Smith, who presided over tho United States Senate Committee's inquiry concerning tho loss of the White Star liner Titanic, speaking in the Senate, said tho British Board of Trade's laxity was largely responsible for the disaster, and that lack of discipline after the vessel struck had resulted in the sacrifice of 500 lives. Senator Smith presented the sub-com-mittee's report of the inquiry regarding tho Titanic wreck. Tho report severely censures Captain Lord, of the steamer for lack of vigilance. He could, the committee thinks, have saved all the Titanic's people. Mr. Ismay, manager of tho Whit© Star Line, is not. held responsible for the high speed at the time of the disaster. Otherwise ho is barely mentioned. Tho Senate voted a medal to Captain Rostron, of the Carpathin, and specially thanked Captain Rostron and his crow.
