This week's Gazette contains the following notices to mariners:— liredeing at Entrance to Bluff Harbour.— The Bluff Harbour Board have notified that during dredging operations on rock near fairway at entrance to Bluff Harbour, a small cask buoy to carry lines from dredgu-inoorings when not dredging, has been laid 130 ft. S. 30des. W. (magnetic) from rock, and about 230 ft. from line of beacons marking ccntro of channel. Vessels entering or leaving port must bo careful to avoid these lines when passing. Tho buoy will be removed when work is completed. Charts, etc, affected; Admiralty Charts Nos. 3484 and SS4G: "New Zealand i Pilot," eighth edition, 1908, Chapter ix, •page 272. New Soundings, Wbaugarei Harbour.— The Whangarcl Harbour Board have notified that careful and systematic soundings have been taken over all the navigable part of tho lower portion of Whangarei Harbour from Passage Island to one mile south of Busby Head. Captain BoMons, of tho Government s.s. Hincmoa, has also taken several lines of soundings outside harbour entrance from Busby Head to 2J miles south. Very little change was found from the recorded soundings shown on tho Admiralty charts, but tho contour of the coast-lino in the harbour is inaccurately plotted on the chart. A chartlet showing the recent soundings obtained will bo published at an early date. Charts, etc.. affected: Admiralty Chart No. 2947; "New Zealand Pilot," eighth edition, 1908, Chapter iii, png» 74. Dueky Sound—l'icVcragill Harbour: Extension of Foul Ground.—Oaptain Geo. Hooper, of the Government steamer Amolsura, reports that tho foul ground on tht =oi',the-eastern shoro of Pickersgiil Harbour, Dusky Sound, extends about, hflff a, cable to tho northward of tho half-tide rock shown on the chart; and that its extreme bears about S. sdeg. E. (true) or S. 22Jdeg, E. (magnetic) from Hie eastern extreme of Crayfish Island. A depth of l\ fathoms at L.W.S. was found at this position. The bottom is very uneven, and as the locality has not been closely examined there may bo loss tlsan that depth. Tho existence of the foul ground aforementioned narrows the cartern extreme of Pickersgill Harbour to half a cable, and not "nearly one cable" as stated in the lost edition of the "New Zealand Pilot." 1908. Charts, etc., affected: Admiralty Chart 3 Nos. 2569 and 71S; "New Zealand Pilot." eighth edition, 1908, Chapter s, page SCO. RUAPEITU'S EXPECTED ARRIVAL. STEWART ISLAND WRECKAGE, Reports fro'n Stewart Island state that i a Quantity of wreckage has been washed up on tho soulh-westorn portion of tho island. Mr. Harry Hoderinue, of Stewart island, in-formed the Bind' correspondent of the Duncdin "Star" that he picked up several pieces near South Cape. Tiic:-e : include a double cabin bunk made of white Baltic pine, with metal iit.tings, and also part of a cabin wall with coat-hook, etc. There was nothing to show whence the wreckage came, but it α-pponrcd to have been in the water only about three or four months. Mr. Koderiauc thought that it miivht have been ea-ufrht in the Tasnian Sea current, and washed up by the south drift current. lie expressed the opinion that it. might be from the foundered s.s. Yongfila, but the chances are more in fn-.'onr of it 3 being from t-ho missin? barouentine Marv Isabel. In the alKcnce of there having been a wreck, them appears to have been a collision, and the washing un of further wreckage will bo awaited with interest.
