The weather was cold and cheerless for tho Oxford University-Australian match, which commenced at Oxford to-day. Tha wicket was slow, and the game was late in commencing. The following represented the University :-E. H. Twining, I. P. ]•; Campbell, F. 11. Knott, Colman, tho Gaekwar of Baroda, G, E. V. Crutchley, Naumann, J. L. S. Vidler, Lister-Kayo, Hands, and Lord. Tho Australian, team is:—C. B. Jennings, D. Smith, C. G. Macartney, W. Bawlsley, R. Miunctt, C. Kelieway, S. E. Gregory, S. H. Emery, G. R. Hazlitt, W. J. Whitty, and W. Carkeek. Gregory won the toss, and sent Jennings and Smith in to face the bowling of Vidler and Lister-Kayo. The opening, however, was poor, tho first wicket falling when seven runs had been scored, Jennings getting leg before to ListerKaya in his second over. Smith was also an easy victim, being dismissed by a simple catch by Campbell at cover-point. Macartney had been playing good cricket, his off-driving being especially fine, but ho lost his wicket when playing forward to a, ball from Vidler. Mimictt was run out in the nert over, owing to a foolish call from Bardsley. Crutchley accounted for Kelieway by a high single-handed catch. Play had been in progress 55 minutes, and tho beard showed five for 51. Oxford's bowliag had been steady, end the fielding smart. Bardsley and Gregory were then associated, and they .stopped the rot, running tho total to IGI before Gregory succumbed to Naumann. Gregory had been at tho wickets for 85 minutes, but his play was uneven. Emery was next, and played vigorously, his on-driving being good. Off ono over from Lord he scored 17. Ho was taken at third man by Colman, off Crutchley. Bardsley also fell to Crutchley, getting his leg in front to cue of hie deliveries. Ho had boen at tho wickei3 IGO minutes, and had given an admirable all-round display. His score included ten fours.
