FARMERS AND POLITICS.
INDUSTRIAL UNREST. (By TelecraDli.—Pi'ess Association.) Auckland, May 23. At the Auckland Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union to-day the president (Major Lusk), in his address, saw the political aspect was on? wluch was worthy of careful consideration, and lie took the opportunity of owe more slating pkinlv and emphatically that the union was absolutely dissociated from any political party in the Dominion. It was not a political party organisation. It was the duty of farmers to take an niurest in politic?, but not necessarily in party politics. In conclusion he said lie must refer to a matter of great current interest—the unrest, which existed in labour circles, an unrest which might have very serious effects upon the community at largo if the aims of one party in particular were carried out. The executive of the union had had to take a hand in reference to the waterside workers' refusal to handle manures in certain kinds of bass. -They had had a conference with tire men, who were not unreasonable, and a settlement was reached. The main cause of tho present industrial disputes was syndicalism, which was a practice that should bo unheard of in any civilised country. He emphasised tho fact that the object of ■ the union was the recognition and promotion of all parties in the community.
