LIFEBOAT ACCOMMODATION.
DISCUSSION IN HOUSE OF COMMONS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. May 22, 10.20 p.m.) London, May 22. In tho House of Commons, in a discussion on the Board of Trade Estimates, Major Archer Shoe (Unionist) censured the Board for neglecting to make regulations providing for sufficient lifeboat accommodation on vessels. Lord Charles Beresford hoped that too much trust would not bo placed in lifeboats, which could only be lowered safely one day in twelve. Ho disapproved of water-tight compartments with doors instead of scuttles. It was often impossible to close the doors. Mr. Buxton (President of the Board of Trade) said the Government was consulting with Germany with a view tn holding an International Conference on the subject of safety appliances at sea. He denied that the Board was neglectful. A careful revision of the regulations would have to be made. He was considering the expediency of the compulsory installation of wireless on vessels.
