MASTERTON NOTES.
(From Our Special Correspondent.) Masterton, May 21. The half-yearly mooting of Stonchinge Lodge, U.A.0.8., was held last evening, Bro. 11. Hilton, A. D., presiding. The nomination of officers for tho ensuing term was as follows:—A.D., Bro. J. Elder; Y.A.D., Bros. Hooper, Perry, and Buckton; secretary, Bro. E. Pragnell; treasurer, Bro. J. Blinkliouse; 1.G., Brp. Ellington; 0.G., Bro, Corbitt; V.A.B. s, Bros. Wilton and .Copper; U.S., Bro. D. Ai Pickering; Bros, D. A. Picker-i-ag and Perry. It is anticipated that thero wul bo at least four nominations for tho thro-o vacant seats on the Mastarioii Trust I/finds Trust. Nominations close on Thursday. Aa Empive Sunday servico for. men is to bo celebrated in St. Matthew's Church on Sunday afternoon next. Tho Battalion Band will bo in attendance. At the monthly meeting of tho Lansdowne School Committee it was reported that the averngo nttendaneo for the past -•even vcelcs was 175, out of an average roll number of 212. It was decided to apply to tho Education Board for a grant of iCM for storing tools and materials required in connection with ths school gardens and grounds. It was also decided to apply to the Trust Lands Trust for a special grant in connection with agricultural and horticultural classes at tho " About twentr-five head of fat cattlo and 170 sheep and lambs, besides purebred stock and produce,_ are to bo offered at auction to-morrow in aid of the funds of the Masterton- A. and P. Association. Mils Berniee Billingtxm, daughter of Mr J. Billin?ton. was knockc-d down by n. motor-cyclist whilst: cycling, and was somewhat seriously injured. Jfr. G. W. Arlidpe, who has been for some years on the Masterton staff of Messrs, Dalgety and Co., lias been transferred to the Wellington office. Mr Arthur Page, a clerk at. the Masterton railway station, who is retiring from tho scrvice to take up farming pursuits, has been made the recipient of a presentation by the staff of the local station. _ At a meetin? last ninht of the committee" of the Masterton Harriers it was decided to hold the opening run this ovenine. A sub-conimitteo was set up to frame rules and syllabus. Mr, R. Person, who has been for some time'on tlio staff of the local telegraph office, has been transferred to Apotiki. Hares are not so numerous in this district this year as formerly. A party which went out yesterday, however, sueccded in bagging ten. The tender of Messrs. Taylor ond Hodges was to-day accepted for tho erection of a Nurses' Home at the Masterton Hospital.
