Hear*!, D.M.T., however, will go up to Auckland and meet Lieul'.-Goneral BadenPowell. He will accompany General Baden-Powell down to 'Wellington, and so on to Christchui-ch villi him, where he will remain to fulfil General Ciodiey's engagements there, while General BadenPowell goes on to Dunedin, As yet it is not known whether General Gcdlevwiji bo well enough to attend the King's Birthday parade at Nou'lown Park on Juno 3. The remains of tho Into Mr. Thomas Coidhnm Williams (tolcuiviphs our Auckland correspondent) wore interred yesterday morning at l'urowa, whither they were carried by motor. Tim service iii the mortuary chapel and nt the gruvciido was read by tho-Warden of iSt. John's College (li-ev, I', T. Williams). Tho coffin was carried by tho deceased's five surviving sons (Messrs. Hugh, Guy, Thomas, Algar, and Krl Teraplo Williams), and Mr. Vernon Rceil, 51.1'. (son-in-law). A number of relatives aild friends of tho into Mr. Williams wore present, including Sir Jlauric# O'Rouvlfc, Sir Robert Lockliart, nnd Sir. C. C. Kettle. Tim Kcv. Canon MucMurrny was present as tho representative of Hishop Crosslc-y, who is at present in the north. -
For many years . probably tho bc-gt boots obtainable in Wellington were made by Mr. Ilenry E. Wnrciip, whose unpretentious premises on Lanibfon Quay were as well-known to (lie district as is tho foremost emporium to-day. Mr. Wareup died this morning at his residence, Gear Street, Petone, fit tho ago of 73 years. Ho was born in Londo'i, and cams* out to Nelson in ISG3. Two years later he nettled in Wellington, and became known as a very excellent maker of foot-gear. He was patronised by several Governors, and people from other parts cf the Colony were in (he habit of leaving their measure with Mr. Warcup. He at one time accepted an engagement as foreman of the bespoke department ait Messrs. ft. Hannah and Co.'s, and also for Mr. Samuel Stone, of Auckland. He was ono of the founders o'i' the Workingmcn's Club in iS77, and Ihe ilag was llown at half-must over the club's premises yesterday as a mark of re.-pect. The lato Mr. Wnrcup is survived by a widow, tour eons, and three daughters.

Colonol Wardrop Moore, a well-known British sportsman, who comes to New Zealand nearly every tyear, and is now quail shooting in the Kai Valley, Nelson, loaves Auckland for England oil June 7. Mr. John Gallic, of Newtown, who left Wellington for a tour round the world towards tho end of January, has returned to Wellington owing to ill-health. Since his return his health has considerably improved.
Mr. G. E. Butler, son of Mr. ,T. C. Butler, of Lambton Quay, has two paintings in this year's Paris Salon, and word by last evening's mail stntes that tlio Salon authorities have forwarded him his varnishing ticket. Tho pictures which ho is showing are "Tho Golden Dustman" (which lias been exhibited in the Itoynl Academy) and "lloscbuds." Both aro studies ol' children.
Mr. E. F. Allan, who is leaving the Public Trust Office to join his father in business at Collingwood, was entertained by a large number of friends a dinneir at the Hotel Windsor on Monday evening, and was also presented with a travelling bag and .silver-mounted walking stick. During tho evening items wero rendered by Messrs. Onkey, Kccles, Neal, Muilins, and Moore.

Mr. Vernon Keed, M.P. for the Bay of Islands, who came to Wellington to" attend tho Local Government Conference, had to return to his homo yesterday on account of tho death of his mother-in-law.

Fleming, of the Railways Department, who has been promoted to the position of Audit'lnspector for tho Canterbury section of railways, loft for tho south last evening. His brother officers made a presentation to Mr. Fleming before his departure. At a meeting of the Dunedin l''iro Board yesterday afternoon (states a Press Association message), Mr, A, G. Napier, of the Adelaide Brigade, was appointed superintendent in succession to Captain Mitchell, who has retired. News has been received of the death at Whangarri (states our Masterton correspondent) of Mr. Septimus Bacon, one of tho earliest residents of Masterton, nnd who, as a member of the Borough Council, was largely responsible for tho provision of a gas-works for Mastortan. Mr. Bacon was afterwards engaged in sawmilling at Eketahuna with Mr. Fred. Bright, and later went to tho Kermadcc Islands. Mr. E. N. Liffiton, cf Wauganui, will be in town for a few days. An interesting little cercmony took place at the meeting of the council of the Northern Bowling Association, last evening, when Mr. E. J. ilill and Mr. H. Price wero the recipients of presentations in token of their services in connection with past tournaments and social functions. Mr. J. S. Keith made tho presentation, and in the course of a brief speech, felicitated the two gentlemen in eulogistic terms, and .then handed to each a handsome silver' and ebony roso bowl, appropriately inscribed.
In accordance with tho new Ministerial policy to appoint a railway traffic superintendent for each island, Mr. C. A. Piper, District Traffic Manager at Dunedin, has been promoted to bo Traffic Superintendent lor tho North Island.
Tho Government has appointed Mr. A. W. Hogg to a seat on tho Victoria College Council; Mr.-'T. W. Adams to a seat on t'iio Canterbury College Hoard of Governors; and the l'cv. Mr, Summers to a seat on the Auckland University College Council. The Hon. J. Colvin returned from Blenheim last night, Mr. J. Georgetti lies been appointed by tho Government for a further term as a member of the Wellington Land Board. The latest batch of Govnrnment appointments includes the following;— Messrs. Bunny, Donald, Udy, and Gilpin, members of tho Wairarapa Licensing Committee; Mr. J. A. Murdoch, Hokitika High School Board; Messrs. Mark Cohen and T. H. Harrison, trustees of the Dunedin Savings Bank; Mr. J~. Gordon, member of tho Ohinemuri Licensing Committee.'
