Miss -Richmond, the only lady member of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, had something to soy at yesterday's meetings on Dr. Valintine's suggestion that there should be provided a half-way house between the ordinary and mental hospital for cases not suited for either. She stated that the number of people who lost their mental balance temporarily was increasing, and she-attributed it to Hie rush and vrfarry of the life people lead nowadays. People were more apt to lose their nerve balance, and it was such people who required medical attention of a certain kind in a suitable place before their trouble became mental. In such cases being sent to a mental hospital might have exactly the reverse effect to what .was desired. She approved tho proposal, which is more fully referred to elsewhere.
