The mystery regarding the disappearance on Friday evening of Mrs. Maud Lynch has not yet bean solved, 'fho nolo lelt at her home on her babv's cot seems to point to some motive which has not yet been explained for hor disappearance. The note, which was written in pencil, reads:-"My dear husband, mother, and father, I can't stand this any longer as 1 am going mad, so pray God that you will all forgive me for what I am going to do, but it must bo done, and you will find my body in tho harbour. De-, ceased had been employed by the Drain, age Board, and, after his death, the relalives served on the board a claim for compensation, as, in their opinion, death waa due to gas poisoning. Tho medical examination, however, shoved that: death waa due to natural causes. An inquest will U held to-morrow. GLOTHES FOUND ON BEACH. Auckland, May 20. A woman's tweed coat, underskirt, shoes; and stockings, also a light cloth coat, such as is worn by a girl about eleven, years of age, was found on the beach near Mangcre. There was Is. 6d. in silver in tho jacket, also n child's handkerchief, and sixpence nnd a school medal.in tho smaller coat. A house owned by Thos. Hickey, jun.i at Waikaia, and occupied by his father and Bisters, was burned down on Friday night. Tho occupants attended a "social.' The house was all right at eight o'clock, but the firo was' discovered by neighbours half a mile away at nine o'clock. Nothing was saved. The house was insured in tho Commeioial t.'nion Office for .£125. The loss is estimated at .£IOO. over tho insurance. Tho origin of the firo i* a mystery. THE JEWELLER'S MANAGER. Ounedin, May 20. Alexander Marshall, manager of S.levr« art Dawson's business at Christchurch. *.aa arrested on Saturday, at Green Island, oa a charge of theft of .£IOO from tho firm. Marshall was formerly employed in.tho firm's Dunedin' shop. He was brought before tho magistrate this morning, and remanded to Christchurch, Bail wa« forthcoming. TROUBLE OVER THE POPPERS. BEALEY FIRE. Christchurch, May 20. A block of wooden buildings, consist* ing of men's changing rooms and bath, rooms, toiler house, and offices, at Bealcy Flat, belonging to M'Lenn and Sons, the tunnel contractors, was destroyed by fire at 1 o'clock this morninv.
