MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.

AN APPEAL FOE SUPPORT. An appeal on behalf of the Missions to Seamen's Institute is being made by the Missioner, Mr. Shell, who writes as follows to the editor.—"May I again appeal through the medium of your valuable paper, to the public on behalf of the Missions to Seamen and its ever-increasing work in the premier seaport. The dangers of the sea, and the hazardous life of fhc seafarer has recently been brought prominently to the notice of the public by the wreck of the Titanic in the Western Ocean, the loss of the Koombana, with all hands on the coast of Western Australia, and also by the wreck of two ships, fortunately without loss of life, almost at our very doors. Apart from the dangers, it is often forgotten what a sailor gives up when he goes to sea, and we need to be constantly reminded of the sacrifices he makes in the exercise of his calling, bis leaving home, friends, and society, not to mention other associations which all hold dear. As far as it is possible to do so, the' Mission endeavours to make up for those losses, and tries to brighten the- lives of. our sailors when on shore bv arranging bright cheery evenings at the Institute, such as. concerts, socials, etc., and when at sea by placing on board the ships plenty, of.good reading matter, and also other.comforts. "For the upkeep of the Mission we rely entire)v upon the generous- help of the public' On July 31 and \i"ust 1. 0. and 3 we are arranging to bold our annual bazaar, and we confidently appeal to the public to help us to make the effort a succe-s. so that we may continue to meet the Teat ni>ed=.nf the sailors roming to the port of Wellington. Gifts of articles which can be sold, and donations will be gratefultv received and acknoirMacd by the Missioner."
