THE PANAMA CANAL BILL.
BITTER FIGHT PENDING. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Washington, May 17. The Panama Canal Bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives. There was a seven hours' debate. The opponents of the Bill claimed that the provisions of the measure gave greater benefits to Canadian and British vessels than to American. They prophesied the complete overthrow of Boston, Portland, Oregon, Seattle, and other American port 9 if tho Bill was adopted.
A bitter fight is pending over the provision prohibiting railroad-owned vessels from using the canal.
