A SOCIALISTIC CANDIDATE. By Telesraph—Press Association-Copyright (Rec. May 111, 5.5 p.m.) New York, May 18. Mr. Eugene Victor Debs has been nominated as tho Socialistic candidate for the United States Presidency.
Eugene Victor Debs was born at Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1855. ne was a locomotive fireman on Hie Terre Hanto and Indianopolis R.R., IS7I-1; iu a wholesale grocery house, 1875-9; city clerk of Terro Haute, 1879-83; member of tho Indiana Legislature, 1885; president of tho American Railway Union, 1893-7; chairman of the National Council Social Democracy, 1897-8; Social Democratic candidate for President, 1900; candidate for Socialist party in 1904 and 1908. He managed two big strikes of railroad men.
