CARTERTON
The annua! meeting of the' Ciuiertoi< Literary and Debating Society was held on .M'hml;iv l.w, Mr. .1. A. IhuiMMi presiding. There was a good muster, and Air. !•'. Feist, was elected president, li was decided to admit ladies io active membership this session. The first debate is tv, take place on .Monday eveniiig, and ;>ny visitors will be given an opportunity to speak. The subject of debate is' to be: "That, compulsory military training is desirable." The affirmative is to be taken by Mr. 11. Hart, and the negative by ilr. ii. l{ol>erts.
FEILDING.
A special committee is arranging !o interview nil the milk suppliers in the Colyton district, anil ascertain how many shaies respectively (hey arc willing to take in tlio co-operative which it is proposed to form (o purchase llr. Gillie's factory, and how many cows they will guarantee. At a recent meeting of delegates of local bodies interested in the extension .of the Manawatu County Council tramway, from Sandon to Greatford or Marton, it was decided that IJr. J. G. Wilson (Manawatu) and Mr. R. K. Simpson I'Kangitikei) interview the Minister for Railways at the earliest possible (late in reference to the scheme.
A number of Feilding Territorials who did not attend the training camp at Westoo sonio time back have gone to Wanganui to undergo their training at the camp for casuals there. The l.arty is in charge of Captain, Barltrop, of the Feilding Manchester Rifles.
On the eve of her marriage, the residents of Awahuri presented a 40-duy clock to Miss Grace Robertson (teacher). . For the Feilding A. and -P. Association, the following officers have been nominated:—President, Mr. E. Short; lion, treasurer, Mr. F. F. Haggitt; General Committee (seven vacancies), Messrs. J. W. BramweU, Gordon Eliott, Chas. Evans, X. Gorton, Jas. Knight, F. Y, Lethbridge, O. M'llrcy, John Morrison. and Jas. Short-all.
At a fpc-cinl meeting of the Orcua County Coimcil niiio tenders " were received for the con-struetion of a bridge over tile Oroua River at Menzie's I'ord. One tender was provisionally accep'.e.i.
FEATHERSTON.
Mr. J. G. Wilson, president of the Farmers' Union, delivered an address to farmers at FenHierston <v.i Saturday afternoon. There was n good attendance. Mr. Wilson dealt with several matters affoetins the interests of farmers, and referred to the tendency of the Labour party and Socialistic leagues to harass the farming community. The address was attentively listened to, and tile speaker received a vote of thanks at its close.
GREYTOWN
A meeting cf householders was held here cn Friday night to consider _ the manner of the- appointment of Mr. W. C. Davics to the hcadmastership of th? local school. The meeting was called by the Mavor ou the requisition of t. mo householders. After discussion ;i r<sclution was carried by 28 votes to -3 that the meeting pretested against the manuer ill which the appointment, had Ijfeii made, and condemnatory of the 1/jard and local committee.
