DEATH OF MR. HENRY VARLEY.

Mr. Henry Varley, sen., the well-known evangelist, died on Saturday, March .10, at Brighton, at tho ago of 715,"after suffering for some time from asthma. Mr. Varley was throughout England and Australia for his evangelistic activity. Originally engaged in business, ho retired early, and devoted himself to religious work. For. a time ho was lay minister of a Baptist church at Notting Hill. He was in great request as a missioner, and in many places his name is held in affectionate remembrance. Latterly he spent some years in Australia, where ho mot with notable success, and he also visited India. On returning to England somo three years ago ho again engaged in mission work, aud ho took part in tho Chap-man-Alexander mission, at Cardiff. On going to live at Brighton lie preached occasionally at Union Street llali. llis fiddresses were marked by shrewdness, vigour, and an obvious devoteduess. In his later years ho became a keen controversialist against Home, tho New Theology, and what he considered tho over-indulgence of modern young men in recreation. Key. Henry Varley, 8.A., of Bowes Park, is a son of Mr. Varley, who also leaves a willow, a daughter, and several oilier sons, two of whom are in Australia.
