ATHLETIC SPORTS.
[ FOOTBALL. THE GAMES TO-DAT. Says the Wellington Rugby Union's official note:—The game between Melroso and Oriental, at the Athletic Park, is likely to prove the biggest attraction this afternoon, and, on the records of tho two teams for this season, patrons should bo provided with n close and interesting struggle. The two teams engaged are the only two who have not been beaten thus far this season. Melroso, after a couple of years of moderate performances, is making a bold bid for championship honours, while Oriental, despite the absence of M'Leod, tlie crack five-eighths, will be strongly re-presented. The Poneke-Wel-lington game at Karori should also bo an even contest. At Petone, Athletic meet Southern. The latter team is improving on what was seen in their first couple of games this year, and may fully extend last year's champions. St. James should scoro a win over Victoria College at the Athletic Park No. S.
