FOR WOMEN ONLY.

Sir,—l should like to ask our new Minister for Railways if he can see his way to set aside one first and one second-class carriage on all the long-distance lines for "women only." Anyone travelling on these lines knows how trying it is for mothers with young children iii our trains now. No matter how short the journey is, men are provided with smoking-car-riages, and what a fuss they would make if they were not. Surely the comfort of mothers with young children should have some consideration, particularly on the long train journeys. lam sure all women having to travel by train on these would feel very grateful if the above concession was granted.—l am, etc., A MOTHER WHO OFTEN HAS TO TRAVEL.
