MASTERTON NOTES.
(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Masterton, May 15. During the last financial year building permits to the value of £27,91il were issued in the Masterton Borough. This represents moro than double, the amount for the previous year,' wind, was £11,248. The executive of the Wairarapa Teachers' Institute is instituting a series of Saturday leclurcs. The first of these is to be given on Saturday next by Mr. Reginald I'oss.
The Masterton Amateur Operatic Society has decided to stage the opera "II.'M.S. Pinafore." Mr. K. J. Young is the new conductor of the .society.
At a meeting of athletes to-night it was decided to form n club to be called (ho Masterton Harriers Club. Sir. S. R. Edwards was elected president, and 31 r. W. Drummond secretary. The opening run is to be held on Thursday nest.
At the annual meeting of tho St. John Ambulance Corps to-night jive membors were awarded medallion labels and ten members first aid certificates. It was decided that winter evening lectures for home nursing and first aid begin on Wednesday next.
