With respect to the Lithgow prisoners' release the Society circularised the unions throughout the State favouring one day's strike as a protest against the Government not leleasing the Lithgow strike prisoners. A meeting of forty unions endorsed the issue of the circular. THE EAST END TAILORS. London, May 14. The tailoring trouble in the West End is coming to an end. The tailors and tailoresses are gradually returning to work.

In the East End, where over 15,000 men and women went out, the position is not so hopoful. The East Enders demand nine hours a day, less one hour and a half for meal times, day work instead of piece work, and improved workshops' accommodation. The officials of

the Amalgamated Society of Tailors and Tailoresses adhere to their refcisal to countenance a strike. MINERS' GRIEVANCES. London, May 14. The miners' grievance in South Wales is that Lord St. AMwyn has insufficiently recognised the earnings of the piecemen, and that, therefore, the owners have been encouraged to put everybody on day wages. ADVANCE IN WAGES. (Rec. May 15, 9.15 p.m.) • London, May 15. A conference held in Liverpool of representatives of shipowners and shipping unions arranged an advance of 10s. per month in the wages of sailors and firemen.
