GROUNDLESS FEARS.
UNION AND AMATEUR MUSICIANS,
Some fears have been expressed of late that the formation of a musicians' union and the obtaining of an Arbitration Court award would 1 have a very detrimental effect upon, tho various anintonr musical societies which, exist in Wellington. Speaking to a reporter last evening, Mr. 11. 35. Oa'kes, president of the new union, declared that nil such fears were groundless. Nothing, ho said, was farther from Hie thoughts of those who had formed the union than to in any way damage the prospects of the amateur societies.. The union would not interfere in tho slightest degree with tho local amateur bodies. Mr. Oakes added that he would have taken an earlier opportunity of making a statement upon tho subject but for the fact that he had been advised to say nothing while the conciliation proceedings were still pending.
