RAILWAY NEEDS.
« TIMAItU'S LITTLE LIST. (By Telsgraph—Press Association.) Timaru, May 3. The Minister for Railways met the members of the Harbour Hoard to-day, and listened to complaints os to the shortago of trucks and shunting power oil the wharves especially, anil also the insufficiency of shed and yi*d accommodation. Mr. J. Crnigie, M.l\, added that the accommodation provided eight years ago hail become inadequate, ns tlio traffic bad doubled in that time. The lack of shunting power meant a loss to shippers through slow work and overtime pay. Tlk> Minister said that after \isifing Christchurch and Timaru, he saw that tlio truck building programme must l:o revised. He intended to put an end to that complaint, and would probably have trucks built outs'de the Department. He suggested that the Harbour Board should follow Auckland nnd Wellington, and pit> : . vide facilities for working the wharves. Ho would consult his responsible advisers on the whole of tlio matters submitted, iu provide the facilities asked for everywhere within reason, was necessary for the de- " velopment of the country's resources, but would mean borrowing. He hoped those who asked for them would not accuse tlio Government of frenzied finance if it borrowed to meet their requirc-mems.
